I’m a mom, and it breaks my heart to see parents giving Gold Fish, and other artificial cheese snacks, to their kids. To make things worse, many parents think Gold Fish is a healthy snack.Unfortunately, if your child attends just about any educational establishment, it’s hard to avoid your children being fed Gold Fish.My child started eating Gold Fish in preschool. And I get mad, sometimes even angry because I do everything possible to avoid him being offered junk but it’s merely impossible. This is why I’m asking teachers, schools and parents most of all, read the label and do your research, becauseour children’s’ health matters.
To begin with, Gold Fish is not kid friendly, as it’s made of:
- Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour [Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid];
- Vegetable Oils (Canola, Sunflower and/or Soybean);
- Nonfat Milk;
It contains less than 2 percent of:
- Yeast;
- Leavening (Ammonium Bicarbonate, Baking Soda, Monocalcium Phosphate);
- Sugar;
- Spices;
- Onion Powder.
The Rainbow version of Gold Fish is made of the following artificial dyes:
- Blue 2;
- Red 40;
- Red 3;
- Blue 1.
GMO Oils and Wheat
First thing’s first, Goldfish is made with genetically engineered ingredients (GMOs) – namely canola or soybean oil. And believe me, there is nothing healthy or natural about it. Children are constantly in a state of growth, as a result, they are the most susceptible to these danger.GMO foods (especially soy) have been tied to an increase in allergies, asthma, and a propensity to get antibiotic resistant infections.A story in the UK Telegraph, recently revealed that the herbicides used on GM soy are so toxic that direct contact often results in severe illness and sometimes death.
Genetic modification creates new proteins the human body has never before seen. They’re treated as foreign organisms which our bodies try to attack and destroy.
Artificial Dyes
The Center for Science in the Public Interest said that all of these artificial dyes contain potential cancer-causing chemicals and most of them can potentially cause severe allergic reactions in children. A study, published by the Southampton University, found that food dye negatively affects all children, whether they have food color sensitivity or they have been diagnosed with a hyperactivity disorder.
Non Fat Milk
Conventional milk and dairy products are dangerous to your health due to added dangerous sweeteners. One cup of 2-percent milk contains 12.3 grams of sugar, more than a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and almost as much as a chocolate chip cookie? Furthermore, low fat milk has no nutrients. By removing the fat from dairy products, food processors end up removing a host of fatty acids and other nutrients along with it.
We beg you to opt for homemade foods, organic options. Try choosing foods without artificial dyes, additives, and other ingredients mentioned above.
