Did you know that certain sleeping positions need to be avoided so that you are not exposed to side effects? Namely, just as factory workers’ health is at risk because they’re in the same position for 8 hours or more, your health is also at risk when you sleep in the same position at night.
Sleeping allows us to rest and gather energy so that we can function better. The way you sleep has a tremendous influence on your overall well-being and when you don’t sleep properly, you can experience numerous health problems.
For example, if you tend to sleep on your right side, you can experience frequent shoulder ache, whereas if you sleep on your back, you might be prone to back pain. According to Andrew Bang, our bodies like diversity. For example, if you fall asleep on your back, switch on the right or left side if you happen to wake up at some time in the night. Sleeping on the back is usually much more comfy and less stressful for the spine than sleeping on the stomach is.
The three sleeping positions, on the stomach, back or on the sides, each have their own influence on your health. Sometimes, sleeping on the back can cause snoring, and if you tend to snore, sleeping on your back will only worsen your condition. Additionally, sleeping on the stomach pressures the neck and back, which makes it difficult to have a good night’s sleep. The best sleeping position is to sleep on the side, either left or right.
In this way, you won’t snore or you will snore less. However, this position is not very good for the spine, so put a pillow between your legs when you sleep on the side. Take a look at the video by Dr. Jennet Kennedy about the side effects of the sleeping positions:
