Nails are the mirror of our health and healthy nails should pink. If your nails appear yellow, it’s not a good sign. There are several reasons for yellow nails.
It’s possible that it could a medical disorder, fungal infection, caused by smoking or simply by incorrect application of nail polish. Nail health is important not only for beauty, but also for the health of your fingers, because the nails protect the ends of the fingers from injury and pressure.
The Causes Of Yellow Nails
Smoking– the most common cause of yellow nails. Tar and nicotine cause appearance of yellow color on your nails, and the best way to solve this problem is to stop smoking. However, if you decide not to quit, don’t hold your cigarette the whole time.
Health problem– yellow nails can be caused by health problems such as liver disease, kidney or lung disease, diabetes, lack of iron and zinc. So if you have yellow nails, and also symptoms that indicate one of the conditions listed above, it would be a good idea to contact and expert additional testing.
Fungal infections– yellow nails can also be caused by a fungal infection or psoriasis. The nails become dark yellow to light brown, and have an unpleasant odor.
Improper nail painting–the nails usually turn yellow when exposed to toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate, components found in nail polishes. Improper use of nail polish, especially if it’s a darker color, leave stains on your nails.
Tips For Proper Nail Polish Application
Be sure to use a base for the polish, because it reduces the direct contact of the nail and the harmful ingredients contained in the nail polish.
Avoid darker shades of nail polish.
Occasionally, leave your nails without nail polish.
After using acetone, thoroughly wash your hands, because any trace of acetone can cause yellow nails.
The Nail Cleansing Mask
In a bowl, add some lemon juice (one lemon) and add a teaspoon of baking soda.
Dip your nails into the mixture and leave them foe 3 – 5 minutes.
Rinse your hand and apply hand cream.
Repeat the process three times a week until the yellowing disappears.
