Did you know that women have an increased desire for sweets and chocolate before their period? And why is that? According to one study this happens few days before the period, and is due to the hormone of happiness, called serotonin, who is responsible for the mood change.
Carbohydrates increase the serotonin levels and that is why women in these moments feel better and thereby the food craving is a completely normal biological explanation.
Women between the first and third day of their period consume even more than 100 calories a day, but before the period that number is increased up to 500 calories a day. Women can spend more energy before their period, which helps them in the prevention of gaining weight.
