What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is a skin color disorder characterized by dark areas on the skin, and is caused by the increased amount of melanin, the dark pigment of the skin. Exposure to sunlight, pregnancy, certain diseases, age or trauma can lead to disorders of melanin and create unaesthetic brown spots, typical for this benign disorder.
The exact causes can be divided into two groups: external and internal. External causes can be those coming from the environment, such as exposure to the sun rays, or to chemical compounds (betaxolol, minocycline, estrogen, progesterone, and etc.). Internal causes are the ones that are related to heritage – people with darker skin are more prone to developing this disorder.
Freckles, age spots and stains from the sun are caused by the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun that damage the melanin and result in temporary or permanent discoloration. Often these stains can be noticed on the face and hands. However, they can also appear on any part of the skin that has been exposed to the sun.
The scars from a trauma or a surgery can also cause discoloration of the skin, and even when the problem disappears, dark spots can remain.
Melasma is a skin hyperpigmentation that occurs during the pregnancy, although sometimes it can affect both women and men. Usually we refer to this disorder as a mask of pregnancy, because of the brown spots covering the face – mainly the nose and cheeks. This disorder usually goes away by itself after the pregnancy and will not cause major problems.
The recipe for the natural cure for hyperpigmentation:
- Take 1 tsp of turmeric powder (turmeric)
- Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- Mix it well
- Apply it to the affected area
- Leave it on for 15 minutes to dry
- Rinse it with cold water
Do not expose your skin to the sun right after the treatment!
It is recommended to apply the remedy before taking a shower. Repeat this procedure once or twice every day until you get visible signs of improvement.
This simple remedy really works and is based on the principles of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of healing.
The lemon bleaches and encourages the skin peeling, and the turmeric, beside the fact that it brightens the skin (and the Indian people know it well), it also has anti-inflammatory properties and makes the skin glow.
People with very sensitive skin, can dilute the lemon juice or use milk as substitute. Try it, you won’t regret it!
