The Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology, the German Harald zur Hausen, warned that the poorly studies virus, which can be found in cows, can cause cancer in humans. He thinks that domestic animals can be a direct cause for colon cancer in humans. We have experimental data that are in favor of this hypothesis. However, this yet remains to be confirmed. Some other scientists have previously warned that the use of the so-called red meat (beef, veal, horsemeat, lamb and pork) increases the risk of colorectal cancer. But Hausen argues that the danger does not come only with the beef, but from the milk as well.
“The traditional explanation was associated with the preparation of the meat on the grill, hence they performed the claim that this leads to the formation of carcinogens. This thesis loses sight especially when these carcinogens may appear during frying fish and chicken, but no one thought that the use of poultry meat and fish can increase the risk of colon cancer “- emphasizes Hausen.
He reveals that in his research he paid special attention to the fact that in Mongolia red meat is consumed in large quantities, and that luckily colon cancer is extremely rare, as well as in India where the beef, for religious reasons, is not consumed at all.
Hausen also indicates that the level of colorectal cancer increased rapidly after World War II. He is convinced that this is the most directly linked to the fact that in these countries, imported beef, became very popular.
This German scientist also adds that in these two Asian countries, cancer of the mammary gland is very rare, mainly because in these countries people are not consuming a lot of cow’s milk and other dairy products.
Hausen is in the latest issue of the scientific journal International Journal of Cancer, reported that he studied samples of blood and milk of cows and that in these samples he revealed “elements of DNA which may belong to an unknown virus that could be carcinogenic.”
