10 Signs You are Gluten Intolerant | Your Stylish Life

Jeff Montenegro · November 1, 2016 ·

Maybe you have noticed that recently gluten-free products have become a trend that never stops increasing. However most of the people that use these products don’t even need them. Many people have absolutely no repercussion when eating this wheat-based protein, but some endure a variety of symptoms that could make their life miserable. Therefore, if you are having any of the symptoms that are listed here, you might consider changing your diet.

Digestive problems

Digestive problems like bloating, diarrhea, gas and dyschezia (or constipation, which is more frequent in children)are one of the most common symptoms connected to gluten intolerance. These problems appear when you are consuming food that contains gluten. People diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) discover that when they stop consuming food which contains gluten their symptoms disappear.

Exhaustion

If you are feeling exhausted and weary after eating food that contains gluten, you are gluten intolerant. In this case you need to cross off wheat or any other gluten-containing grains from your food list. This way you will be able to restore and even increase your energy levels.

Migraine/Headache

According to a study that was conducted in 2001, it has been confirmed that eating gluten could cause migraine and strong headaches for the gluten intolerant. MRI scanning has confirmed that most of them had inflammation in their nerve systems, which was probably caused by reactions to gluten.

Behavior issues

By removing the gluten from your diet you can improve many psychological issues connected to behavior like anxiety, ADHD, depression and constant change of moods.

Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris or follicular keratosis is a skin condition. This skin condition is manifested by the appearance of rough, slightly red, bumps on the skin. This issue is generally connected to improper absorption of vitamin A and fatty acids, which in turn are caused by damage to the intestines from long periods of gluten exposure.

Fibromyalgia (chronic pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints) or Chronic Fatigue

You can never be sure what is the cause for your chronic pain or your chronic fatigue, but in most of the cases removing the gluten from your diet could help in finding the cause.

Joint problems

Gluten intolerance often leads to inflammation, swelling and pain in the joints area, most frequently the knees and fingers.

Neurological Symptoms

A gluten-based disturbance within the immune system can often cause an inflammation in the nerve system. The symptoms for this condition are vertigo, dizziness, numbness or tingling.

Autoimmune Diseases

People who are gluten intolerant often suffer from autoimmune diseases. This is because of the inflammation and continuous exposure to gluten. The autoimmune diseases include psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, scleroderma, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

 Hormone Imbalance

Gluten intolerant women often suffer from irregular menstrual cycles, infertility and PCOS, because the inflammation caused by it places a great amount of stress on the adrenal glands, which could disturb their proper functioning, upsetting the whole endocrine system.
