Why buy GMO food when you can produce fresh and clean food in your own yard?
The trend nowadays is to grow your own food. There are many reasons why you should grow your own food. However the most important ones are that you will have pesticide-free food and you will save quite a lot of money. Many people know this and they have turned their decorative flower gardens into gardens full with organic fruits and vegetables.
However, you will need something to start with, so here we offer assistance with your very first pineapple plant. If you care enough for it, it will grow and it will be a wonderful pineapple tree that will bear fruits with mellow taste.
Here we will give you some general facts that you should know before planting a pineapple:
- Pineapples are bromeliads, which means that they do not have seeds.
- Pineapples do not need much water. Therefore you don’t need to exaggerate, because they will endure even with a small amount of water.
- You can grow the pineapple in hot and sunny climates, but it will also survive and grow well in shade.
- Pineapples do not need a large amount of high quality soil because they do not have big roots. This can save you a lot of money.
- Pineapples need slightly acidic soils, which most of the gardens already have. This means that you can simply use the soil from your garden to fill the planting pot.
Here’s what you need in order to grow a pineapple:
- a pineapple fruit (any size)
- a little glass container of water
- a planter
- potting soil
Instructions:
Step 1:First of all you need to buy a nice and ripe pineapple fruit. The most important thing in buying the pineapple is to make sure that the pineapple is healthy and that it does not have any soft spots on its thick rough skin. We suggest you buy an organic pineapple fruit, so your very first home-grown pineapple grows organic too.
Step 2:For the second step you need to rinse the fruit, and then place it on its side on a cutting board.
Step 3:Now first you need to cut the top green area (or the crown) along with 2.5-5 cm (an inch or two) of the sweet yellow flesh. Then put the crown in the sun for a couple of days. Leave it like that until it dries. Then pull out only the outer stiff leaves and leave the inside ones. Put the crown into a small glass container with about 1cm (half an inch) of clean water, so the bottom is dipped into the water, while the leaves float above the water level.
Step 4:Now put this glass container in a sunny place. You can leave it next to a window pane or outside in your garden. You should leave it there for at least 2 weeks. However you need to change the water every 2 or 3 days.
Step 5:In a fortnight, the crown will produce roots and be ready for planting. Therefore you need to prepare a suitable planter with potting soil in order to plant it.
Water the plant just enough to keep the soil wet. We suggest that you expose the plant to the sun for at least 6 hours a day. For the rest of the day you can place it in a shade or in your home.
It will take about a year to grow your pineapple plant. You can replant it in a bigger pot or plant it directly in your garden, when it outgrows the planter. Expect your first pineapple fruit in about 12 moths or maybe sooner. Enjoy your organic pineapple!
