Endometriosis is a disease that can lead to fertility issues. Itcan also seriously impede your sexual relations along with causing pelvic pain, painful bowel movements and very painful menstruation. These are all symptoms that can bring serious problems in women suffering from endometriosis.
When it comes to satisfying the desire to have children, we can say that there are a series of socio-economic issues that are generating some temporary imbalances. There are many economy problems you want to solve before having a child, such as the economic hardship, finding the ideal home for raising children, the need for financial collaboration between both members of a couple. Finally when you have solved all of these problems another one occurs, you age. Namely according to the female physiology you will probably reach the age when it is not recommended for child bearing even though the woman is still fertile. There are cases when the reproduction is unachievable.
Among all of this adversity, this pathology also plays a determining role, exacerbating the aforementioned afflictions even more.
Looking from a medical perspective, this disease is defined as a combination of symptoms produced when a type of concrete cells, the cells in the uterus lining, grow outside of the womb. Which means that there is growth of uterine cell in otherareas of the body that are not the uterus. Therefore because they are cell that are prepared to respond to certain hormonal stimuli, certain symptoms such as irregular bleeding, difficulty becoming pregnant and pain, can often appear. So we can conclude that the menstrual cycle deeply affects this cell growth “outside its place.”
Causes
One of the causes of the symptoms of Endometriosis is actually in the normal female menstrual cycle. You are probably wondering why is that. And here is why, sure you remember that the uterus looks like a type of beg or an upside down glass. So the lining of the uterus gets thicker as the menstrual cycle progresses. This is because the female body prepares to house an embryo. This is achieved thanks to the influence of very specific hormones (steroid hormones). When the time comes and conception has not occurred, the body detects that everything it has prepared is not useful and it gets rid of it; this is the menstrual bleeding that expels the layer of cells that had been formed.
But what happens if part of those endometrial cells that had been shed were not all expelled correctly and some of them stayed inside the body?
This is exactly what happens in cases of endometriosis.Namely the implantation of these types of cells exists outside of the normal cavity (the uterus) in varying areas, such as for instance the interior of the pelvis, in the actual ovaries, but the cells can also be implanted in the intestines, the rectum or the bladder or other parts of the body.Since they are not dead cells, these cells that are re-implanted outside of their place continue to follow the “orders” of the hormonal influxes. Trying to “obey the order to shed”, sometimes they bleed when the ovarian cycle is over. However they are not able to be shed.
Their growth is sometimes stimulated and sometimes not (also depending on the time of the cycle), depends on the area of the body where they have been implanted.
However the real cause of this problem is still unknown. The cell growth outside of its normal place does not occur due to the appearance or formation of these cells in strange places, but rather it seems to be a “relocation” of cells that originally were formed correctly. Some believe that is brought by some type of reflux generated during the shedding of the lining, by some kind of retrograde menstrual flow. Which means toward the back and inside and this can be caused by certain anatomic alterations.
Thereare also those who believe that women with endometriosis have some kind of immune disorder that has not been discovered yet. Whatis certain is that it is more common in women whose mothers or sisters have suffered from it.
Usually this disease is diagnosed between the age of 25 and 35, however it is believed that it is probably initiated around the time when menstruation becomes regular.
