Any types of pans, sheet pans or pots that contain PFASs, you should be thrown immediately. There are several reasons why you should stop pan frying steaks or chips or make pancakes in these types of pans, which are promoted as pans that are non-stick. Almost 200 scientists agreed that containers for preparation of food which are marked as “non-sticky” have a negative influence on our health. PFASs are a class of chemicals that include perfluorinated chains. the original PFAS used in Teflon was banned by DuPont and other major manufacturers after there was a link established between it and health concerns such as cancer. This chemical and other long-chain PFASs have been well established to persist in the human body for years after exposure. Many counties have also banned long-chain PFASs.
The “Madrid Document” was signed by leading world scientists and it contained a mutual statement that warns the world about frequent use of poly-and Perfluoroalkyl substances in people’s homes. PFASs are highly persistent, as they contain perfluorinated chains that only degrade very slowly, if at all, under environmental conditions. It is documented that some polyfluorinated chemicals break down to form perfluorinated ones. PFASs are found in the indoor and outdoor environments, wildlife, and human tissue and bodily fluids all over the globe.
These above mentioned chemicals are also used for the production of metal food containers and food storing vessels such as plastic or paper plates and fast food packing. Their main characteristic is the “non-sticky layer” which prevents the food from sticking or burning. For these reasons, we recommend disposing the use of PFASs and encouraging manufacturers of cookware to develop safer nonfluorinated alternatives.
