According to a research conducted in Thailand, turmeric aids in the prevention of diabetes, by testing its effect on 200 patients who were part of a high-risk group.

Receiving 750 mg of turmeric per day for a period of 9 months, no patient developed diabetes. On the other hand, patients who received placebo did not have such positive results – 16 % of the patients developed diabetes.

Turmeric improves the function of beta cells (cells of the pancreas that produce insulin), thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. In type II diabetes, turmeric activates AMPK, an enzyme that increases the absorption of glucose and affects genes that stimulate glucose production in the liver.

Turmeric has proven to be 500 to 100,000 times stronger than metformin. A popular drug used in the treatment of diabetes.
