Polycystic ovary syndrome affects women during their reproductive years and is the result of hormonal disorders. Often, but not always, the cysts are formed exactly on the ovaries. Although not harmful, they can lead to hormonal disorders that causes prolonged or irregular menstrual cycles, excess air, obesity and acne. Most importantly, the diagnosis should be set up early so as not to lead to long-term complications such as heart disease or diabetes type 2 diabetes.
What causes polycystic ovary syndrome?
According to the Mayo Clinic, there are several theories:
* Poor inflammation – women with this syndrome have poor infection that causes polycystic ovaries that produce androgens;
* Heredity – this may run in your family, so if your mother or sister has, the chance of you having it is even greater;
* Excess insulin – if you have too much insulin that can affect the ovaries through increased production of androgens (male hormones), which will hinder the ovaries to ovulate regularly.
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms start shortly after the start of the cycle, but may also develop during later reproduction. There are many signs, but they are different in every person and can be manifested in different ways. The worst symptom is obesity. You will have to look for these symptoms:
- Excess hair on your face and body – increase hair growth can occur on the back, stomach, feet, chest and chin.
- Irregular menstrual cycle – this is the most common sign. There are some cases that involve a cycle that lasted over 35 days, increased body temperature, having your cycle eight times a year, long or heavy cycles, or lack of cycle for several months or even longer.
- Pimples – This condition can cause oily skin, so the pimples can be very deep and painful.
- The problem with the insulin levels – excess insulin interferes with the ability of the ovary to evolve properly.
- Moodiness – depression and mood swings.
How do you cure it?
The treatment of this condition is different for each person. Doctors will tell you to change your lifestyle and exercise to lose weight. They also may prescribe you birth control pills to help you to regulate your cycle and reduce the production of androgens.
If you recognize some of these symptoms you will need to talk with your doctor to give you a diagnosis and to learn how to fight this condition.
