The human body is an electrical organism. The nervous system uses electrical messages to perform control of all functions of the body. The electrical activity of the heart can be measured with an electrocardiogram, or EKG, and the electrical activity in the brain is measured with an electroencephalograph, or EEG.
One study measured the effect of using mobile phones for only 15 minutes on the EEG in 31 women. All the women placed their mobile phones on their chest or next to their ear. The researchers found that using a mobile phone or placing it next to your ear can surely change brainwaves in women.
Children and adolescents may be particularly vulnerable to this. Children have thinner skull, which allows greater penetration of frequencies, in their brain that is still developing.
The Chinese study has shown an increased risk of tumors of the parotid gland, which is close to where everyone usually keep their phones, next to the ear.
The researchers put a cell phone in the cage with pregnant mice in it and left the phone in there for the duration of the pregnancy of the mice. All the mice have become hyperactive and showed memory problems when compared to mice that were not exposed to mobile phones during fetal development.
