Everyone in their own way tries to keep their home clean and fragrant, but there is something that we thought is there to help and actually threatens the health of the entire family.
Recent research has confirmed that air fresheners and scented candles contribute to the death of thousands of people a year. These are the two things that most households have and regularly use, and these two products contribute to indoor air pollution.
The use of scented candles became very ‘popular’. Many people nowadays like to publish their photos with candles that improve the whole atmosphere. Many people like to swim or to make love, near these candles, but they are not aware of how much these products are harming them.
According to a research, which was conducted by physicians and pediatricians from The Royal University in London, about 40,000 deaths per year can be linked precisely with the internal air pollution. This figure rises up to a staggering 99,000 deaths in Europe.
Indoor air pollution is a result from the use of the aforementioned air fresheners and candles, and the cleaning agents and the steam from the boiler are not helping the situation.
So, why are candles and air fresheners that dangerous?
According to the study, governments of countries do not test the air fresheners, and they do not have any safety or health standard.
A study conducted in 2007 showed that 74 brands of air fresheners have a dangerous amount of an organic compound that is harmful at room temperature.
Young children in particular are at risk because these dangerous compounds affect the development of reproductive organs and hormone levels.
Many of you think that the environmental air pollution is much worse, because of the huge amounts of gases from cars and factories, and it cannot be compared with several chemical compounds that come from scented candles.
However, you are forgetting the fact, that in the environment, these gases are ‘distributing’ fast and they move freely, while this is not the case with the internal pollution.
Your homes are incredibly isolated and constructed so that the outside air cannot get in there, but also the opposite, the inside air cannot get out. Therefore when these toxins from the air fresheners and candles are released into the air, they are ‘trapped’ inside the house or the apartment, and over time their concentration increases.
So, what would be a healthy solution for homes that smell of bacon and wet dog?
Experts suggest that you regularly ventilate your home and that way the air flow will do its part.
